Nigerian Governor Officially Decamps From PDP To APC
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reports of the governor planning to defect to the ruling party have been rife online for some days.
The governor today put paid to all the rumors as he formally announced his defection.
At a press conference in Abakaliki, the state capital, Governor Umahi confirmed he has joined the ruling party. He hinged his defection on what he described on the ”injustice” done to the south-east by the PDP since 1998.

Gunmen Kidnap 12 Police Officers
Twelve operatives of the Nigerian Police said to have been travelling from Borno State to Zamfara State have been kidnapped by gunmen.
It was gathered that all the kidnapped police officers are on the rank of Assistant-Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The 12 police officers were said to have been kidnapped on their way to a special operation in Zamfara State and their abductors are now demanding ransom.

Anger As Presidency Boycotts Meeting With S’South Governors, Others
The six governors from the South-south geopolitical zone and other important personalities from the Niger Delta region have expressed their angst at the Presidency for failing to attend a major stakeholders’ meeting scheduled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday.
It was gathered that the meeting was convened at the instance of the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, to discuss the emerging threats to the peace in the Niger Delta region.
A source and aide to one of the governors said the meeting was arranged days before Tuesday and wondered why the Presidency chose to treat such crucial gathering with levity.

COVID-19: Mouthwash Can Kill Virus In Lab In 30 Seconds – New Study
Mouthwash can kill the covid-19 virus within 30 seconds of being exposed to it in a lab, a scientific study indicates.
Scientists at Cardiff University found there were “promising signs” that over-the-counter mouthwashes may help to destroy the virus.
The report comes ahead of a clinical trial on Covid-19 on patients at the University Hospital of Wales.
Dr Nick Claydon said the study could lead to mouthwash becoming an important part of people’s routines.
While the research suggests use of mouthwash may help kill the virus in saliva, there is not evidence it could be used as a treatment for coronavirus, as it will not reach the the respiratory tract or the lungs.

Kogi Records 20 New Cases Of Leprosy
Kogi state has recorded 20 new cases of leprosy, the state’s Programme officer for Leprosy Mission Nigeria (LMN) Mrs Hannah Fashona revealed.
Leprosy is a chronic, curable infectious disease mainly causing skin lesions and nerve damage, and is caused by infection with the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It mainly affects the skin, eyes, nose and peripheral nerves.
Mrs Hannah Fashona made this known yesterday at the COVID-19 response palliatives distribution for communities of persons affected by leprosy and disabilities in the state, said the new cases were recorded between January and November 2020.

Super Eagles of Nigeria who are three-time African champions were once again forced to a draw by Sierra Leone in their 2022 African Cup of Nations second leg qualifier in Freetown.
Gernot Rohr and his men traveled to Freetown for this match with aggressive minds having played 4-4 draw in Benin, Edo state with Sierra Leone in the first battle.
Nigerians were not happy with the result of the match in which Gernot Rohr and his men promised to redeem themselves in the return leg.

No Helicopter Was Shot Down By Boko Haram In Borno – Buhari Aide
Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has said that the report that Boko Haram terrorists shot down a helicopter in Borno State is fake news.
The report had said that five persons died in the attack which took place at Banki, a town located in Bama local government area of Borno State.
Daily Trust, one of the national newspapers broke a news earlier that Boko Haram shot down a helicopter in Borno, and the story turned out to be yet another FAKE NEWS. Our media outlets have a great role to play in defeating terrorisms in any country, Nigeria included.
