Buhari mourns death of former Presidential Adviser, Akinyele

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the death of Chief Theophilus Akinyele, former Presidential Adviser on Budget to President Shehu Shagari. The President, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, noted that Chief Akinyele, who was also a Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance of the old Western State of Nigeria, served Nigeria meritoriously.

“President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with family of Chief Theophilus Adeleke Akinyele, former Presidential Adviser on Budget to President Shehu Shagari, urging all loved ones to find solace in his contributions to the country, and humanity. “The President commiserates with all professional colleagues and friends of the former adviser, who served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance of the old Western State of Nigeria, Registrar and Secretary to the Council of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife Nigeria and Secretary to a Military Government and Head of Civil Service of Oyo State.

“As Director of Budget and Special Adviser on Budget Affairs to President Shagari from 1979-1983, President Buhari affirms that he served the country meritoriously, using the knowledge acquired in some of the best institutions in the world to shape policies and advise on implementation, particularly on development issues.

“The President prays that the Almighty God will receive the soul of the deceased, and comfort his family,” the statement said.

13 die in Kaduna-Kano road crash

No fewer than 13 persons were on Tuesday confirmed killed in a car accident along Kaduna-Kano express way. Several passengers also sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident involving a Kano bond Macopolo luxurious bus and four other vehicles. Our correspondent gathered the crash occurred around a village called Jar-marmara in Ikara local government area of Kaduna.

An eye witness, who identified himself as Mallam Sani Haruna, told our correspondent: “The luxurious bus lost control and colided with four cars, in which 16 people died on the spot. The four cars were condemned.” It was gathered the luxurious bus left Lagos heading to Kano on Monday evening before the crash in the early hours of Tuesday few kilometres to its destination.

Our correspondent learnt many of passengers on the luxurious bus, who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Kaduna Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Hafiz Mohammed, confirmed the incident and the casualty figure to our correspondent.

Angry youths beat up Pastor,  after a man accused him of being gay and propositioning him for sex in Port Harcourt. The pastor identified as David Alfred, was publicly disgraced and embarrassed after he was accused of making sexual advances on a man. David when asked the name of his church, said he is a pastor of Salvation ministry in Port Harcourt. However, the church mentioned in the viral video, has denied his claims while stating his not one of their pastors.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has tested positive for COVID-19

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus The global football governing body made the announcement on Tuesday.

It also stated that the FIFA boss has displayed mild symptoms and “has immediately placed himself in self-isolation and will remain in quarantine at least for 10 days.

People who have come into contact with the 50-year-old Swiss lawyer in recent days have been informed “to take the necessary steps,” according to FIFA. Infantino’s infection comes as Switzerland reports a spike in COVID-19 cases, with more than 23,000 cases since last Friday.

Federal Government declares The ursday, October 29, public holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, October 29, as public holiday in celebration of Eidul-mawlid. This is in commemoration of the birth of Holy prophet Muhammad for all Muslim faithfuls.

The minister of interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the announcement on behalf of the federal government on Tuesday, October 27.

The statement reads;

The FG has declared Thursday October 29, 2020 as Public Holiday to mark this year’s Eidul-Mawlid Celebration in commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (@raufaregbesola) who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated the Muslim faithful both at home and abroad for witnessing this year’s occasion. He enjoined them to imbibe the spirit of love, patience and perseverance which are the virtues of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding that doing so would guarantee peace and security in the country.

President Buhari reappoints Prof Yakubu as INEC Chairman

President Buhari has reappointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, for a second term in office.

Femi Adesina, spokesperson for the President, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who was appointed head of INEC in 2015, has another five-year term, and is set to oversee the 2023 general election.
