Iheanacho on fire: Inspires Leicester to a comeback win with a goal and assist

Leicester City came from a goal goal down to defeat Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium. The comeback started with Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho.

James Maddison scored an impressive free-kick as Leicester City came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 in the Premier League, easing the pressure on boss Claude Puel.

Defender Mathias Jorgensen put Huddersfield in front after just five minutes, having failed to score in any of his 38 Premier League appearances last season. But Kelechi Iheanacho, back in the team as one of three changes from Puel, promptly equalised before Maddison’s moment of quality and Jamie Vardy’s impressive finish proved decisive in the second half.

The home win gets Leicester back on track after a run of two straight defeats, while struggling Huddersfield remain without a victory.

Job done ✅

Having found goals hard to come by this season, Huddersfield got just the start they needed. It was scrappy, but the visitors were delighted when Philip Billing’s long throw was flicked on by Laurent Depoitre and tucked in by Jorgensen from six yards, Kasper Schmeichel unable to get enough behind the shot. But their lead lasted only 14 minutes, as a lethal Leicester counter-attack produced the equaliser. An excellent Maddison throughball found Vardy, who teed up Iheanacho to place a first time, left-footed finish into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

Leicester made most of the running from there, as Vardy squandered good opportunities in either half and Harry Maguire was denied a penalty after tangling with Jorgensen.

Depoitre failed to pull the trigger quickly enough in a rare Huddersfield opening as he bore down on Schmeichel, but Maddison then produced a moment of quality at the other end to put Leicester ahead in the 66th minute, his curling, 25-yard free-kick proving too hot for Jonas Lossl to handle.

And the points were safe for Leicester with 15 minutes left, Vardy racing through to chip Lossl after Iheanacho sent him clear.

Leicester 1-1 Huddersfield

What it means: Leicester back on track as Huddersfield struggle

After back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Bournemouth, Leicester and Puel looked like they were in trouble after falling behind, but a morale-boosting win in which their key attacking stars shone sets them up nicely for the weeks ahead.

Huddersfield came into the game winless and as the league’s lowest scorers, and it could be another long, difficult season given they prop up the table with two points and only three goals from six games.

4 – James Maddison has either scored or assisted in four of his last five Premier League starts for Leicester City (3 goals, 1 assist). Whip.

Maddison continues to impress

Maddison was excellent again for Leicester. His free-kick was the decisive moment with the match evenly poised at 1-1, while his earlier pass was instrumental in creating Leicester’s equaliser.

He now has three goals this season, while lively performances from Iheanacho and Vardy in attack also helped the Foxes, as a tinkering Puel continues to look for his best line-up.
Depoitre display typical of Huddersfield’s attacking woe

Huddersfield will have fewer chances than the opposition in most of the games they play this season, so taking advantage of the openings they do create is pivotal.
Depoitre, who replaced Steve Mounie for this game, did not do that, failing to shoot when through on goal in the second half, while also planting a late header straight at Schmeichel. Scoring goals looks like it is going to be a massive problem for Huddersfield again this year.

What’s next?

Leicester will aim to continue their momentum at Wolves in the EFL Cup on Tuesday before a crunch league meeting away to Newcastle United on Saturday, the same day as Huddersfield host Tottenham in the top flight.

REACTIONS: Drake and Kim’s alleged affair takes a new turn as truth unfolds

fan conspiracy theory goes viral claiming drake and kim kardashian ‘had affair’ Winning the crown for weirdest news of the day is a fan conspiracy theory that’s gone viral for its claim that Drake and Kim Kardashian ‘had an affair’ way back before she was with Kanye West.

ICYMI, there’s a thread making the rounds online theorising that Drake has been laying hints about this alleged, so-called fling in his music for several months, but we’re going to need you to pay real close attention to this because it’s complicated and involves one too many lyrics.

The theory is primarily based on Drake’s song Scorpion, in which he references someone’s ‘wifey’ and raps the line: “I already hit her when you left her lonely.” Not particularly solid evidence, but it goes on.

Kanye and Drake have supposedly been beefing since they were together in Wyoming for a recording sesh.
And the fan who took the time to really delve into this absolutely bonkers idea showed that both Drake and Kim posted pics to Instagram with very similar captions…with some calling shade on Drake’s side.

As Kim posted a near nude pic of herself with the caption: “I’m really shy,” and Drake posted one with: “I’m shy,” afterwards.
Again, wouldn’t stand up in a court of law, but this is the internet so any theory goes apparently.

Where it gets mega interesting, though, is when the theory starts talking about the hit In My Feelings, which literally says: “Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding?”
And we all know whose nickname that is…

But it could also be said that this does get to the point of clutching at straws:Is that a reference to this viral theory or what? The beef between Kanye and Drake alongside that Kiki reference could make the lyric mention of ‘your wifey’ from Scorpion seem a lot more direct.

The remarkable rise of Manchester City from 2008 to 2012

Back in January 2018, Manchester City were anointed the 5th richest club in the world, generating a revenue of £527.7 million as per Deloitte Football Money League rankings. The Manchester club spent a whopping €317.5 million on transfers last summer bringing in an array of talent such as Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, etc. This season also the club has splashed the cash, bringing in Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez for €68 million euros.

The club took the league by storm last season playing attractive football and breaking multiple records, the most notable record being the first team to gain 100 points in a Premier League season. With a world-class manager in Pep Guardiola and an abundance of talent in their squad, City is the envy of a lot of clubs in the world. Let’s take a look at the incredible rise of the club from Manchester.

Image result for The remarkable rise of Manchester City from 2008 to 2012

The spending power of City goes as far back as to the 2008-09 season, the year Sheikh Mansour, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family took over, a move that would change the landscape of English football in the years to come. The club had just finished 9th in the 2007-08 season, a huge achievement at that time for the club and its fans. The club also made it to the group stages of the UEFA Cup for the first time since 1978. While their rivals Manchester United were winning titles at ease, it was a completely different scenario in the blue side of Manchester. The club was notoriously inconsistent and in fact had been in the second division of English football as recently as 2001.

Image result for The remarkable rise of Manchester City from 2008 to 2012

With the prospect of European football and their new owners making promises to bring in world-class signings, City fans were having the time of their lives. The new owners delivered on their promise, and the club secured the incredible signing of Brazilian Robinho from Real Madrid on deadline day. This took the club’s transfer fees paid for the season to €157 million. They finished a disappointing 10th in the league (08-09 season) though but did have an adventurous UEFA Cup run reaching the quarter-final stage.

Next season, City improved their strike force with the signings of Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez. This meant the club had spent 147 million euros for the 2009-10 season and it seemed to have paid off with the club achieving a 5th placed finish and a Europa League playoff spot. Not content with their strike force, City signed Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg. The club also bought in Yaya Toure and David Silva from Barcelona and Valencia respectively. The latter two would play a key role in Manchester city’s future successes. By the end of the season, the club had spent €183 million on transfers.

On the pitch too, the club was flying with a 3rd place finish in the league (10-11 season) thus achieving a Champions League berth. This meant it would be the club’s second ever appearance on the European grand stage, the first being way back in 1968. The club also won the FA Cup, their first trophy since the European Cup Winners’ Cup back in 1969.

2011-12 was a relatively quiet transfer window for Manchester City with the club spending €91 million. However, it was also the season where they made the most crucial signing in the history of the club. A young Argentine striker by the name Sergio Aguero was making waves with Atletico Madrid in LaLiga and was attracting the interest of a lot of big clubs. However, City was the first to pounce and the rest is history. Heading into the last day of the 2011-12 season, City were in with a shout of winning the title. The Cityzens were having an impressive season under manager Roberto Mancini with new signing Aguero lethal in front of goal. They were level on points with rivals Manchester United but had a superior goal difference, meaning that matching United’s result on the final day would be enough to clinch the title. City had to face relegation-threatened QPR at home whereas United travelled to Sunderland, already safe and with nothing to play for.

Image result for The remarkable rise of Manchester City from 2008 to 2012

What transpired over the next 90 minutes was nothing but remarkable.

City, as expected, dominated the opening half and finally got rewarded with a somewhat fortuitous goal from Argentine right-back Pablo Zabaleta just before halftime. Yaya Toure played a clever pass through to the right-back who unleashed a weak sidefoot shot which the keeper parried, but the ball looped over and struck the other post before crossing the line. Meanwhile United was up against Sunderland and also led 1-0 at half-time.

The title was still very much in Manchester City’s hands but the question was whether they could hold their nerve. The answer seemed to be no when ex-Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse gave QPR a shock equalizer in the 48th minute. A poor mistimed header from City defender Joleon Lescott sent the ball towards his own goal and Cisse was there to pounce, latching on to it and striking a powerful first-time shot at goal.

Image result for The remarkable rise of Manchester City from 2008 to 2012

There was further drama though, when Joey Barton, formerly of City was sent off in the 55th minute. City fans now expected their side to go on and take full advantage of the extra man, but QPR had other ideas. QPR left-back Armand Traore skipped past City skipper Vincent Kompany and picked out Jamie Mackie at the far post who made no mistake with a brilliant diving header. The ten men of QPR now led in the 66th minute. City looked stunned and as the clock ticked 90 minutes, it seemed likely that United would win yet another league title. However, a David Silva corner in injury time was met by a great header by Dzeko. It was now 2-2 in the 92nd minute and City had hope.

2 minutes later their prayers were answered. Sergio Aguero received the ball deep in his own half and played a simple forward pass to Mario Balotelli. Balotelli took a neat touch and turned his marker brilliantly but in the process lost his balance. He still managed to squeeze a pass into space for the onrushing Aguero who had continued his run into the box after his pass.

The Argentine took the loose ball in his stride, skipped past a sliding challenge and struck a fierce right footed shot beating the QPR goalkeeper at his near post. It was 93:20 on the referee’s watch and what followed was this unforgettable piece of commentary by Martin Tyler.

Ambode Hell Bent On Claiming Second Term Bid, Visits Buhari In Aso Rock, Amidst Pressure To Step Down For Sanwoolu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja met behind closed door with Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The News Agency reliably learnt that the governor would be updating the president on latest political development within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The governor’s political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the APC in Lagos State were alleged to have mounted pressure on Ambode, to drop his second term bid.

Tinubu, who is alleged to have endorsed Ambode’s opponent within the APC, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had refused to back Ambode’s second term ambition despite pleas by concerned individuals and several socio- political groups from within and outside Lagos state.

NAN, however, gathered that governors under the platform of APC, who met on Wednesday night in Abuja, had on behalf of Ambode, sought the intervention of President Buhari in the APC crisis in Lagos state.

NAN reports that the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Gov. Rochas Okorocha, delivered the governors’ message to the president few minutes before his meeting with Ambode.

A source in the presidency told NAN that the president might end the tussle between Ambode and the Mandate Group, led by the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

NAN gathered that the president may also meet with other APC stakeholders in Lagos state within the week as part of efforts toward resolving the rift.

What is Manchester United’s lucky charm?

What’s the story?

Chris Smalling’s new hairstyle might have drawn a host of mixed reviews, but his value to Manchester United is massive. In fact, his value is such that whenever he scores for the Red Devils, they always end up on the right side of the result. Hence, he is their new ‘lucky charm.’

In case you didn’t know…

After a stuttering start to the season, Jose Mourinho and co. have steadied the ship to a notable extent, having picked up consecutive victories over Burnley and Watford. They now have nine points from five matches.

The heart of the matter

Watford FC v Manchester United - Premier League

In their recent fixture against the Hornets, Smalling eventually scored the winner after Romelu Lukaku had given United the lead. A corner was flicked by Fellaini to Smalling at the near post, who chested the ball and slotted it past Ben Foster like a center-forward. Although Andre Gray reduced the deficit with a fine finish, Mourinho’s side held on to claim all three points and continue their resurgence. Smalling began his sensational record way back in 2010, when he netted against Scunthorpe United. The Englishman has also waved his magic wand against arch-rivals such as Chelsea and Manchester City. Courtesy of MEN Sport Go, we have a list of the matches Smalling has scored in.

Here are the top players in Europe right now

There are numerous roles in football, with many superstars taking up these roles and entertaining us with their incredible talents and amazing displays. However, there is a particular set of players who never fail to amaze soccer fans each time they step on the pitch – the playmakers.

Playmaking has become a very popular and dominant role in the sport during this modern era and that is why you see a lot of elite clubs splashing mouth-watering figures to acquire this spectacular set of players. Europe is the home of the finest playmakers in the world at the moment, with many superstars rising up and using their adept passing, incredible vision, immense creativity, fantastic goalscoring knack and their ability to control the tempo of the game to make name for themselves across the continent.

With the role becoming more famous than ever, we take a look at the top 3 playmakers that are currently plying their trade in the European territory:

1. Eden Hazard

Image result for eden hazard

Another Belgian player on the list, Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard is also one of the finest playmakers in Europe at the moment – thanks to his incredible performances at Stamford Bridge during the past few months.

Filled with an incredible talent, plenty of terrifying skills and an amazing hardworking spirit, the attacker has been a real threat to opposing defences in the English Premier League for quite some time – with his ability to get past multiple opponents using his sheer pace and electrifying dribbling skills.

Hazard is also a very creative player, capable of producing clear-cut chances for his teammates to score as well stepping forward to find the back of the net himself whenever there is the opportunity. His biggest strength is his ability to hold on to the ball and keep it very close to himself, dribbling with great flair and penetrating into the opposition box in order to wreak havoc.

2. Neymar Jr

Brazilian maestro Neymar Junior left Barcelona to complete a world-record deal to join French champions, Paris Saint Germain during the summer of 2017, where he has metamorphosed from being just a talented player and establishing himself as one of the most impressive playmakers in Europe at the moment.

Neymar is well known for his incredible ability to get past opposition defenders using his sheer pace and electrifying dribbling skills. He uses his stepovers quite well, dribbling through multiple markers effectively and adding great flair and entertainment to the game.

Besides, the Paris Saint Germain superstar also possesses a decent vision, capable of picking out the right passes and linking up with his teammates effectively down the left flank. His ability to create chances is like none other and his finishing is quite unparalleled – qualifying him as one of the most impressive playmakers in Europe right now.

3. Lionel Messi

It is true that there are no words to describe the incredible genius of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, but one might be right to call him a beautiful work of magic – courtesy of his unbelievable ability to make the impossible become possible.

The Argentine is a level above every other superstar in Europe as far as playmaking skills are concerned. Nobody understands the game as much as he does – he sees everything happening on the pitch and also reads the tempo of the game faster than anyone else.

Messi has been a great force to reckon with throughout his career, tormenting opposition defences with his unbelievable dribbling skills, unmatchable intelligence and fantastic goalscoring knack. He has the ability to pick out the right passes, dropping deep in midfield to orchestrate team play before launching threatening attacks and penetrating into the opposition box to create chances for his teammates to score as well as finding the back of the net himself.

Aston Villa vs. Rotherham United Predicted lineup

Steve Bruce really, really needs a victory on Tuesday for the sake of job security. It’s not inconceivable to think another defeat will force the hands of Nassef Sawiris, Wes Edens, and Tony Xia to make a managerial change.

Image result for Aston Villa vs. Rotherham United

But thankfully for all involved, Rotherham provides a good opportunity to collect three points. The Millers returned to England’s second division after a disastrous 24th-place finish in 2015/2016. They’re better now, but not by much and hold a -5 goal differential through 7 league matches. It’s one reason why this match is another inflection point for Steve Bruce. If he can’t beat Rotherham at home, and convincingly, who can he defeat?

Image result for Aston Villa vs. Rotherham United

Rotherham is buoyed by a young core, led by 22-year old midfielder Ryan Manning, 21-year old ‘keeper Marek Rodák, and mainstay Will Vaulks. Paul Warne’s squad travels to Villa Park fresh off an impressive 1-0 victory over promotion contenders Derby County. For Villa, the injury report is mostly the same: Scott Hogan has returned to training, but isn’t ready for a full shift. Yannick Bolasie made his club debut on Saturday, but he might need one more substitute appearance before going a full 90 minutes.

Image result for Aston Villa vs. Rotherham United

Predicted Aston Villa XI (4-1-4-1): Nyland; Elmohamady, Chester (c), Tuanzebe, Taylor; Whelan; El Ghazi, Grealish, Hourihane, Kodjia; Abraham.

Substitutes: Moreira, Jedinak, Hutton, Bjarnason, McGinn, Adomah, Bolasie.

After several indifferent appearances, John McGinn might have to settle for a bench spot with Conor Hourihane re-entering. Jonathan Kodjia and Tammy Abraham have the ability to form an absolutely menacing strike partnership.

The question remains, however: how does the rest of the lineup settle behind them?

Does Jack Grealish settle for left-wing in order to accommodate he, Conor, and John? How do Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi hold-up as pure outside midfielders? And do Glenn Whelan/Mile Jedinak have the legs for a midfield pivot?

WHEN: 17 September 2018 @ 7:45 p.m. GMT / 2:45 p.m. EST

WHERE: New York Stadium / Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England

PREDICTION: 3-1 Aston Villa victory (Abraham, Grealish, Hourihane)

Villa will no doubt make this more difficult than necessary, but on paper they should win.

Saraki Boldly Speaks On His Removal As Senate President, Reveals The Whole Truth On The Senate’s Adjournment

Nigeria’s 8th Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has boldly stated that those plotting to impeach him after the National Assembly reconvenes, would not succeed.

“They do not have the numbers to impeach me, if we reconvene”, he said.

Saraki, who said this while responding to questions from Newsmen at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat, in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Sunday evening, stated that those who were being emotional, do not have the numbers to remove him from office as Senate President.

His words: “Those who are accusing us of an undue process in the adjournment, are unaware that we are in the majority. They know they do not have the locus standi.”

He however, added that the decision of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly to go on recess, was unanimously agreed, and in accordance to the rule of law.

Saraki said: “It is important to note that when we adjourned, it was with the total support of everyone, not that we stayed in a corner or in the dark, because there is a due procedure, where at the end of the session, they will vote for that.

“It was proposed and seconded. We took minutes, and we also even waited and went through the rules and proceedings of the Senate. It was not anything done out of mischief.”

The Senate President added: “The most important thing is that, at any time, I will never sacrifice the interest of this country for my own personal interest. In the last three years, my interest is always secondary to the interest of the country.

“The people that are speaking now against it are speaking out of emotions, because everyone was there when the decision was taken. It was not that a few of us met somewhere and took a decision.

“Everybody was there, and we all took a decision to adjourn in our normal annual recess. Check the dates we resumed last year, and the year before. There was nothing abnormal about it.

“Those people who are talking against it, are just playing politics with it. When it is time for us to resume, we will resume. And all we just want to do now, is to see that this country is governed properly, according to the rule of law and due process.

“I have always aligned myself to what the Constitution says, and the tenets of the three arms of government, to ensure that we allow the rule of law, and respect the democratic process.”

Buhari’s appointments are balanced and fair— Lai

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says President Muhammadu Buhari is fair and balanced in his appointments.

He argued that to get the full picture of the president’s appointments, the totality of appointments made into public offices must be considered as against singling out the security sector.

Mohammed gave the defence on Friday in Lagos when he paid an advocacy visit to Channels Television to call for support for the national campaign against fake news.

His comments came on the heels of nepotism charge against the president following his appoint of Yusuf Bichi, a native of Kano State, as new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Channels management team had asked the minister for his reaction to the criticism of lopsidedness that had trailed the latest appointment.

The minister said, “Those talking about balancing and federal character should stop focusing on one aspect.

“Let us see how many Permanent Secretaries, Director-Generals and Executive Directors and Heads of Parastatals we have in Nigeria today and where they come from.

“This will give us a more insight to the fact that this administration is not lopsided in appointments.

“We should stop looking at only one side to make our judgment and anywhere we notice any lopsidedness government will correct it,” he said.

Mohammed also debunked allegations that the N16.6 billion Paris Club refund to Osun State was to influence the election in favour of the All Progressives Congress-led state government.

“This is not the first time the Paris Club refund is being made available to states, I think it should be about the fourth time the government had released the money.

“This particular tranche would have been drawn a while ago but for the disagreement between the governors and the Federal Government.

“It is released to all the states, so, it has nothing to do with the election, the timing may be a coincidence,” he said.

On the progress made so far on Digital Switch Over, the minister said that the Economic Management Team headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had set up a committee look into the challenges facing the process.

He said that the major challenge of DSO was basically funding and certain statutory interpretation.

Mohammed assured that the DSO was on course and the process would be fast-tracked after the report of the committee.

The information minister also said the prediction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) victory at 2019 presidential poll by The Economist magazine is fake news.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research unit of the magazine, had said though the 2019 election would be “a close contest”, the PDP would defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mohammed said the report was based on “fake premises.”

“Talking about fake news, we expect that those who have been deeply affected by our policies will mount a sustained campaign against this administration in the weeks and months to come. In fact, they have already started,” the minister said.

“We have all read that the intelligence unit of The Economist said the PDP will defeat the ruling APC in 2019. We have also read that the international financial institution HSBC said Nigeria’s economic development will be stunted if President Buhari gets a second term

“Let me state clearly that these reports are based on fake premises and, therefore, qualify as fake news. It is a psychological warfare by those who have been badly hit by our policies. For example, out fight against corruption has meant that many financial institutions, especially banks, that fed fat on the proceeds of corruption are no longer able to do that.

”Also, international publications that used to feed fat on questionable supplements paid for by the federal government have seen a drastic reduction in such patronage, as the Administration cuts down on frivolous spending that was the order of the day in the past.

“Therefore, it is natural that these institutions and publications would not wish to see another term for this administration.”

The minister said the campaign against fake news has recorded a great achievement so far.

”Since launching the campaign, we have recorded a huge success. Yes, we have not stopped the spread of fake news, and we are not under any illusion that we can stop it so fast,” he said.

“But we have succeeded in bringing the issue of fake news to the front burner. It is now a subject of national discourse, workshops and conferences.”

John Momoh, chairman of Channels Television, said his station would remain a watchdog for the society.
